In this 8 week series, you will learn the essential flamenco dance techniques for beginners, including body posture, brazeo (graceful arm work), zapateado (footwork), compás (rhythm), and a choreography. We will focus on the Tangos palo (not the Argentina kind!), which is a very accessible 4-count upbeat rhythm for beginners. We will also be listening to other palos (styles) of flamenco during warm -ups, etc. You WILL get a workout as well, and have a lot of fun!

About Your Instructor
A long-time Flamenco enthusiast from her first awkward steps with her first teacher, Laura Onizuka almost 2 decades ago, to her intensive studies in Sevilla Spain, Heather has been dancing flamenco off and on for 15 years, both as a performer with Flamenco Callejero in Portland, Oregon, and as a teacher to little Flamenquitos. Although "retired" from intensive studies and performance, she wants to share the magic of flamenco duende (the goosebumps you get when your body and the music are in sync) with others in her new city, St. Augustine, Florida.
She studied at the Taller Academy in Sevilla Spain, and has taken master dance, cante, and palmas workshops in Portland Oregon, Albuquerque New Mexico, and Jerez de la Frontera, Spain with Manuel Liñán, Emilio Ochando, Ricardo López, Oscar Nieto, Pastora Galván, Pilar Ogalla, Adella Campallo, and Vicente Griego.

She has a passion for meeting students where they're at, and making the material accessible to all abilities and all ages.
